The Easter long weekend in March was a perfect opportunity to visit Ireland. We flew to the Green Isles and soon discovered why it is so green - It was very windy and rainy!!! The city was very vibrant with many great shopping streets and the fun Temple Bar region with many bars, cafes and restaurants. We visited the Guinness Storehouse which was good however as Warren and I hate Guinness the free pint was not such a bonus!!
We went on a day trip to Northern Ireland, our tour guide was a typical Irishman who liked to serenade us with local folk songs during our ride. Starting in Belfast we then drove to the Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge on the north coast. Its was a beautiful coastline and you could actually see Scotland!! Next stop was the Giants Causeway - a natural rock formation that appears like many hexagonal pillars. Legend has it that a giant built a path from Ireland to Scotland so he could reach a beautiful princess and bring her back! The last stop was Derry - a walled city that was the centre of the troubles years ago - it had a few shady characters and some beautiful murals of peace on the sides of apartment blocks.
We had a very relaxing weekend and got to see a great Irish city and some beautiful scenery.
