Amanda will visit Egypt and the Greek Islands initally with her parents and sister Elise. We will then meet up in the romantic city of Rome on the 28th of April. We plan to spend 3 weeks in Italy, 3 weeks in France before making our way to London to earn some pounds!!!
LONDON
We have been here for 2 weeks now. We have a cool flat in Camden, very close to city centre. Warren has a job as a mechanic for the London Council and I and am incharge of setting up the flat - I have the bruises to proove it!! Hayley and Barney have stayed over this week and plan to keep crashing when ever they return to London. We have seen only some of Londons sites - Hyde park (we saw Foo Fighters), Oxford circus, Leicester square and Soho. I am marking off all the streets on the Monoploy board and only have old kent road to go!!! The plan is to work for 2 months hopefully pay off the Visa and spend September travelling again. Enjoying London for now.
EPERNEY
We caught the train to Eperney - in the Champagne region. We went to two cellers - Mercier and Moet & Chandon. At Mercier (very famous french brand) we took an undergroud tour on a train through the celler. We tasted 3 glasses and had a lovely time chatting to other tasters!! The moet tour was on foot and the guide told us many interesting things - but we were pissed & remember nothing and just wanted to get to the drinking part!! After tasting 3 more champagnes (very yummy) we were hammered! We stummbled out and sat on a park bench and called friends from home (sorry elise and dicky).
DISNEYLAND
We spent 2 days at disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studios. Went on all the rides, warren made me line up for 40 mins to go on dumbo - a ride for under 10's!!!! Space mountain and Areosmiths rock n roll adventure were fun while the haunted mansion was scary. We had a great time and went to Disney Village both nights for dinner and ate in a medievil castle and a 50's resturant. We saw many shows and the grand parade. I had my photo taken in sleeping beautys castle!! Here is Warren on the train after a very exciting day at Disneyland!!!
Loire Valley Chateau Tour
We went to the Musee d'Orsey - impressionist gallery. It held works from Renoir, Picasso and Monet. The art was beautiful and we spent many minutes staring at each painting. We went on an organised tour of the Loire Valley and 3 of its most beautiful Chateau's.Chambord - Famous for its spiral staircase, castle like on massive grounds.Chenonceau - My favourite, built on a river, beautiful gardens with maze and tree lined entryCheverny - Noble family still live there, more modern the the other two, it had heaps of bloodhounds (at least 60) as the owner likes to hunt, massive green gardens surround the house. As a treat we stopped at a french winery and had a tasting of 6 french wines including white, rose and red. All were very nice and made the trip home fly!!
EIFFEL TOWER & MOLIN ROUGE
We went to the Eiffel Tower - it was the best monument we have seen so far!! It took 3 hours to get to the top and back down. We took photos and warren sat in chewing gum!! We did a night tour of paris and saw all the monuments lit up (however it was still dusk!!). We splashed out and went to the Molin Rouge - it was fantastic. All the girls were in beautiful costumes and had their tits out. we has good seats in the nose bleed section and drank champagne. There were singers dancers strong men and jugglers - a great show. Here is some fancy photography from warren.
PARIS VERSAILLES
VERSAILLES Today we caught the train to the place of Versaille. A 16 Centurary palace 40 mins out of Paris. The extreme wealth of the royals was evedent here. It was ransacked during the revolution however is very beautiful. The gardens were amazing with several large fountains and a massive pond that you paddle across. It took 30 mins to walk from the palace to the pond. The inside rooms were very rich in art and taperisties and we saw the famous hall of mirrors, a ball room with one side covered in mirrors to reflect the setting sun. The room of battles had a mural of each battle franch has been in - it was a massive room!! We went to the latin quater to have dinner in a vergetarian resturant very nice to eat healthy food!!
LOUVRE
The Louvre. We got up early to beat the crowds and were rewarded with a clear and close look at the Mona Lisa. We spent 6 hours inside and didnt see it all!! There were many beautiful paintings and sculptures. We spent some time outside photographing the pyramid and museum. We liked the contrast between old and new- not a scar on the face of Paris!! We also returned later in the week to take some night pictures - we had to do it at 11:30pm as the sun does not set untill 11pm!!!
PARIS SIGHTSEEING
Today we saw the Arc de Triomphe and the crazy round-a-bout that surrounds it. The decorations were not completed because Naploean started to loose his battles!! We walked down Champs Elysees the famous shopping avenue to Place de la Concord. This is where Ramses II oblisque stands. It was interesting as I have seen its original location in Luxor. Warren was excited to see the St Sulpice church that was featured in the movie The da Vinci code, it was a beautiful but dark church and the rose line could be see on the floor streching up onto the wall. We saw the Parisan Pantheon, it was very large and from the roof we had an excellent view of city. We played hide and seek in the crypt.
PARIS SIGHTSEEING
In our first day of Paris we went to the Notre Dame. It was very beautiful - my favourite church of all (and we have seen millions of churches!!). The inside had two columns down each side with chaples devoted to saints along the walls. Mass started while we were inside and the acoustics were amazing!! We went onto the roof and had a view of Paris, the famous bells of Notre Dame and the cheeky gargoles.
CHAMONIX PHOTOS
Here we are in the French Alps. It was warrens first time seeing snow. He made a new friend Mr Frosty... my lip smackers came in handy!!. THe next is inside the glacier, the coloured lights in the ice made the entire cave change colours. I also included a picture of the town of chamonix and surrounding mountains
LYON
Lyon is a big city that was supposed to have an awesome nightlife...... we are still waiting!! It did have a beautiful park that had a zoo, mimi putt course, pony rides and a green house. Warren kicked my butt at mini putt. We took the tram up to the highest point of Lyon where there was a beautiful church - the notre dame of Lyon. You can see Warren enjoying the beautiful view.
CHAMONIX
When we got here we thought our hotel was close to town, it was a nice B&B. However it was an hours walk away. Our legs where killing us. The town is a pretty little ski village in the alps. Warm when we arrived and freezing when we left. Our first day we went half way up the mountain to a glacier. Where they had caved into the ice and filled with ice sculptures. It was very pretty. 2nd day we went to the very top of the mountain a good 3600 metres above sea level and -12 c. Warren saw snow for the first time!! So cold every 5 min we ran back into the toilets and heated our hands under the dryer. The day we left it was snowing at our hotel it was very beautiful. NEXT STOP PARIS!!
LYON
Lyons was a busy city but there wasnt much to do. It had a massive park in the centre with a zoo and mini putt course - warren kicked my butt!!! On sat night we went to a big hippi street party - everyone was very messy. Tryed to watch the da Vinci code but after 15 mins of previews it was in french!!!!
AVINGNON
Avingnon was a small provincial town that has a famous bridge and castle. We loved it for the many restruants, boutiques and small town feel. For our one year anniversery we had a picnic in a park on top of a hill overlooking the region - very romantic.
NICE MONOCO CANNES PHOTOS
NICE FRANCE
Our first stop in France was in the French Riviera. It was as beautiful and glam as we had read. We stayed in Nice and from there travelled to Cannes and Monoco. Nice was hot and had pebble stone beaches but ice cold water!! It had many resturant streets and shopping malls. Very dissapointed in the KFC - no corn or potato n gravy :( . Cannes was very busy as the film festival was on, we didnt see any stars but there were heaps of beach parties and street proformers. We went to the Casino in Monte Carlo - very stylish. We played french roulette and broke even!!
