Christmas In Iceland

We spent Christmas in the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik.

Day 1 Sat 23rd, we spent most of the day sleeping. As our flight from heathrow was delayed 5 hours because of the London fog. However we did get up in time to have some day light left. So we had a very yummy lunch and a walk around the city seeing a very cool looking church and streets full of shops and stores.

Day 2 Sun 24th, we set off for our very wet and windy tour of the Iceland's geysers and the famous golden circle waterfall. For the first 2 hours of the trip all the guide would say is, "Through the darkness to the left is a very famous land mark however you can not see it". Our first stop was a green house where they grow all the fruit and veg all year long.

Our next stop was the geysers luckily the sun had just pop up. The large one did not erupt as is only does so a few times a day. The small one did every 3-9 minutes the first time we missed it with the camera but luckily we got it on the second try. Then we had to get out of there as the rain was poring down and the smell of rotten eggs was really bad.

After a hot chock we moved on up the road to the even more wet golden circle water fall. It was very amazing you could feel the power of the water through the freezing wind. Amanda had a funny little trip into a big puddle of water trying to climb across a rope fence and slipped into it and had even more wet socks for the rest of the day.

Next before heading back to a hot shower and dry clothes in our hotel was the site where the European plate meets the American plate above the ground with a distance of 750 meters between. That night Jus, Rob and Trudy turned up so we spent some time catching up and drinking Moet with them before the big sleep. Although it was a wet and very cold day it was also very exciting.

Day 3 Mon 25th Christmas Day, we spent the morning calling family and opening gifts with the gang having a great time not knowing it had snowed outside as it was not forcasted. As we walked down to breakfast we could see it all over the ground outside. Like the crazy Aussies we are not seeing snow much we ran outside and had a snow ball fight. Then all the fun was over Amanda had a pretty bad fall and split her chin open. After a little rest she was back on her feet and we had a wonderful walk around the city and made a snow man. That night we went out for a fantastic Christmas dinner. After dinner we went on our northern lights tour but were unable to see them as it was to cloudy so we had another snow ball fight.

Day 4 Tues 26th, we left the hotel and said our goodbyes to Jus, Rob and Trudy and set off to the Blue Lagoon. It is a wonderful volcanic hot water spring known for its healing powers. As you will see Amanda in one picture she has some of the mud on her face to protect her beauty. It really did make your skin feel very smooth for a few weeks.

After the lagoon it was back to London and spend a few weeks with the girls when they arrive.

We had a fantastic time in Iceland.
